The Climate Finance Unit (CFU) serves as the national coordinating body for accessing, managing, and monitoring climate finance flows in support of the Belize’s climate change agenda. The CFU was established in 2022 to maximize the country’s access to global climate finance opportunities. Climate funds like the Green Climate Fund and Adaptation Fund fall within the unit’s portfolio and have dedicated officers serving as the official focal points to each entity. The unit works closely with other government ministries, private sector and civil society, development partners, and stakeholders to develop and implement projects that enhance resilience, promote low-carbon development, and protect vulnerable communities and ecosystems. Through its no-objection procedure, the CFU acts as a clearinghouse for climate finance proposals, ensuring that they are fully aligned with the national policies and frameworks like our Nationally Determined Contributions and the #planBelize Medium-Term Development Strategy. Through these efforts, the CFU plays a critical role in ensuring that climate finance is effectively leveraged to achieve transformative, country-driven results across Belize.
