Policy and Planning Unit
Policy and Planning Unit
Overview
The Policy and Planning Unit (PPU) of the Ministry of Economic Transformation (MET) in Belize serves as the central coordinating body for national development planning and policy formulation. Its primary role is to support evidence-based decision-making by developing, analyzing, and aligning economic and social policies with the country’s long-term development goals. The Unit is responsible for preparing and updating national development frameworks, such as the Growth and Sustainable Development Strategy (GSDS), and ensuring coherence with international commitments like the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It leads the monitoring and evaluation of development initiatives by establishing performance indicators and assessing outcomes to enhance government effectiveness. Additionally, the PPU facilitates interagency coordination and stakeholder engagement to ensure that planning efforts are inclusive and collaborative. It also provides technical support to government ministries and agencies in integrating planning with budgeting processes and strengthening institutional capacity in policy analysis and results-based management. Through its strategic oversight and coordination, the PPU plays a vital role in guiding Belize’s sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
